Es gibt eine Spezies beim Nordischen Skisport, die wartet auf den 24. Juni. Nicht etwa, weil auf dem Weg zu Weihnachten gerade Halbzeit ist und man schon über Geschenke nachdenken kann. Nein – am 24. Juni tagt die Executive des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees. Und befindet über die Aufnahme der Nordischen Kombiniererinnen ins Olympische Programm.
Die Aufnahme dürfte Formsache sein. Schließlich war es das IOC, dass sich vehement dafür stark gemacht hatte, die letzte Männerbastion des Winters einzureißen. Und die Verbände waren der Aufforderung gefolgt, obwohl das verbunden war mit Mühen und Kosten. Für Peking 2022 hatte es noch nicht gereicht, den Herren der Ringe fehlte ein eingespieltes Weltcupsystem, außerdem konnten die Damen auf gerade mal eine WM-Teilnahme verweisen.
Das hat sich, bzw. wird sich bis 2026 ändern. Und dass es sich um eine globale Sportart handelt, das zeigen die Teilnehmerfelder mit der zunächst dominierenden Tara Geraghty-Moats aus den USA über nie Newcomer des letzten Winters aus Japan, die Versuche Chinas, ein schlagkräftiges Team zu etablieren und natürlich die Anstrengungen der Europäer von Norwegen über Österreich bis Deutschland.
Interessant dürfte sein, ob das IOC, dessen Programm im Winter durchaus noch die eine oder andere Erweiterung vertragen könnte, nur einen Wettbewerb gestattet oder gleich das Thema Mixed-Staffel in Angriff nimmt. Sicher ist – alle Voraussetzungen sind vorhanden, neue Eingriffe in die Natur für neue Anlagen sind nicht nötig. Und wenn die Frauen erst einmal mit von der Partie sind, dann herrscht – zumindest in puncto Disziplinen – endlich Gleichheit zwischen Damen und Herren. Wird auch Zeit!
Combiners wait for Olympic approval

And that it is a global sport is shown by the fields of participants with the initially dominant Tara Geraghty-Moats from the USA over never newcomers of the last winter from Japan, the attempts of China to establish a powerful team and of course the efforts of the Europeans from Norway to Austria to Germany.
It will be interesting to see whether the IOC, whose program could still tolerate one or the other expansion in winter, only allows one competition or tackles the topic of mixed relay right away. One thing is certain – all the prerequisites are in place, new interventions in nature for new plants are not necessary. And once the women are involved, then – at least in terms of disciplines – there is finally equality between women and men. It’s about time!
