Forum Nordicum in Kranjska Gora with exciting information from the world associations

In the end, the forum participants thanked Tomaz Sustersic, Secretary General of the Slovenian Ski Federation, and Tomi Trobvc, Media Director of SLOSKI. The two men and their friendly and helpful team had ensured that the 43rd edition of the Forum Nordicum was also a success. Which is remarkable because the preparation time for the traditional meeting of specialist journalists from the fields of Nordic skiing and Biathlon was only three months. But despite the short span for the preparation of the meeting – the hosts had done a great job.
Incidentally, this does not only apply to the Forum Nordicum, the start of the hot preparation phase for the Nordic World Ski Championships, so to speak. This also applies to the World Cup preparation itself. The so-called final inspection of the world federation FIS in the run-up to the forum determined: Everything works, everything is in order. More is not possible.
Incidentally, the same applies to Oberhof, the host of this winter’s Biathlon World Championships. The Thuringians, who presented themselves in detail at the Forum Nordicum, were also able to announce: We are on target! Although World Cup OC boss Thomas Grellmann of course did not conceal the fact that the current situation is already driving one or the other worry fold on the forehead. Keywords are the Ukraine conflict, the energy situation in Germany and the pandemic situation, which is still not completely over. However, factors that no organizer can actually influence.
This also applies to the world federations FIS and IBU. The biathletes, who reported at the forum on the results of the just concluded election congress, are trying to draw up a „Plan B“, which, however, contains many unknown factors. The World Ski Federation, on the other hand, does not yet have such planning – too many incalculable components make serious action difficult.
There was also reason for discussion about the current overall picture, which the World Ski Federation presents to the outside world. The elections in the summer and the ensuing legal dispute between the federation and individual strong member nations, the marketing situation and the consequences of the decision of the International Olympic Committee not to include the Women’s Nordic Combined in the programme of the 2026 Games were focal points of the discourse.
Speaking of 2026: Here, the biathlon location Anterselva (Anterselva) presented initial plans for the Games. The World Cup locations Nove Mesto (CZE) 2024 and Lenzerheide (SUI) 2025 also presented themselves.
The sports debates were framed by presentations by individual partners of the sport, including the heating engineers Hargassner and Viessmann, the Villach Tourism Association and World Cup main sponsor Stora Enso.
The highlight of this year’s meeting was the participation of the 50 journalists from nine countries in the official opening of ticketing for the Nordic World Ski Championships. In addition, the hosts had included a trip to Bled and Pokljuka in the program, which showed all participants the beauties of the host country.
In addition to those already mentioned, forum Nordicum would also like to thank all friends, partners, supporters and sponsors who have remained loyal to us or have joined us even in these certainly not easy days of the event. The 43rd Forum is history. Preparations for the 44th Forum Nordicum in autumn 2023 will soon begin.

Forum Nordicum in Kranjska Gora mit spannenden Informationen aus den Weltverbänden

Der Dank der Forum-Teilnehmer ging am Ende an Tomaz Sustersic, den Generalsekretär des Slowenischen Skiverbandes und Tomi Trobvc, den Mediendirektor von SLOSKI. Die beiden Männer und ihr freundliches und hilfsbereites Team hatten dafür gesorgt, dass auch die 43. Auflage des Forum Nordicum ein Erfolg wurde. Was deshalb bemerkenswert ist, weil die Vorbereitungszeit auf das traditionelle Treffen der Fachjournalisten aus den Bereichen Nordischer Skisport und Biathlon nur drei Monate betrug. Aber trotz der kurzen Spanne für die Präparation des Treffens – die Gastgeber hatten großartige Arbeit geleistet.
Das gilt übrigens nicht nur für das Forum Nordicum, sozusagen der Auftakt der heißen Vorbereitungsphase auf die Nordische Ski WM. Das gilt auch für die WM-Vorbereitung selbst. Die so genannte final inspection des Weltverbandes FIS im Vorfeld des Forums stellte fest: Alles funktioniert, alles ist im Lot. Mehr geht nicht.
Gleiches gilt übrigens für Oberhof, den Ausrichter der Biathlon-WM dieses Winters. Auch die Thüringer, die sich beim Forum Nordicum ausführlich präsentierten, durften vermelden: Wir sind im Soll! Wenngleich WM-OK-Chef Thomas Grellmann natürlich nicht verschwieg, dass die aktuelle Situation schon die eine oder andere Sorgenfalte auf die Stirn treibt. Stichworte sind da der Ukraine-Konflikt, die Energiesituation in Deutschland und die immer noch nicht völlig ausgestandene pandemische Situation. Faktoren allerdings, die kein Veranstalter tatsächlich beeinflussen kann.
Das gilt auch für die Weltverbände FIS und IBU. Die Biathleten, die beim Forum über die Ergebnisse des gerade beendeten Wahlkongresses berichteten, versuchen einen „Plan B“ aufzustellen, der allerdings viele unbekannte Faktoren beinhaltet. Beim Weltskiverband dagegen hat man eine solche Planung bisher nicht – zu viele nicht kalkulierbare Komponenten erschweren seriöses Handeln.
Grund zu Diskussionen gab es auch rund um das derzeitige Gesamtbild, das der Weltskiverband nach außen präsentiert. Die Wahlen im Sommer und der sich anschließende Rechtsstreit zwischen dem Verband und einzelnen starken Mitgliedsnationen, die Vermarktungsreche-Situation und die Folgen der Entscheidung des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees, die Nordische Kombination der Frauen nicht in Programm der Spiele 2026 aufzunehmen, waren Schwerpunkte des Diskurses.
Apropos 2026: Hier präsentierte der Biathlon-Standort Anterselva (Antholz) erste Planungen für die Spiele. Auch die WM-Standorte Nove Mesto (CZE) 2024 und Lenzerheide (SUI) 2025 stellten sich vor.
Umrahmt wurden die sportfachlichen Debatten von Präsentationen einzelner Partner des Sports, darunter die Heizungsbauer Hargassner und Viessmann, der Tourismusverband Villach und WM-Hauptsponsor Stora Enso. Und natürlich war auch wieder die Firma FISCHER vor Ort, die dem Forum Nordicum seit dessen erster Auflage 1980 die Treue hält.
Höhepunkt des diesjährigen Treffens war die Teilnahme der 50 Journalistinnen und Journalisten aus neun Ländern an der offiziellen Eröffnung des Ticketings für die Nordische Ski WM. Darüber hinaus hatten die Gastgeber einen Ausflug nach Bled und Pokljuka ins Programm aufgenommen, der allen Teilnehmern die Schönheiten des Gastgeberlandes vor Augen führte.
Der Dank des Forum Nordicum geht neben den schon Genannten auch an alle Freunde, Partner, Förderer und Sponsoren, die auch in diesen gewiss nicht leichten Tagen der Veranstaltung die Treue gehalten haben oder neu zu uns gestoßen sind. Das 43. Forum ist Geschichte. Bald beginnen die Vorbereitungen für das 44. Forum Nordicum im Herbst 2023.
