Viessmann and IBU to award the best sustainable biathlon club initiative

Press Release

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) and its Official Climate Partner Viessmann are pleased to announce the launch of the Climate Club Trophy to award the best sustainable biathlon club initiative with the winner receiving a Viessmann climate solution.

The Climate Club Trophy exemplifies the shared goal of the IBU and Viessmann to promote sustainable action within the biathlon family. Biathlon clubs worldwide are invited to submit their existing sustainable club projects to be in with a chance of winning. The most inspiring stories will be shared on the IBU website before a winning club is selected via a public vote at the end of the current biathlon season. The deadline for submissions by the clubs is 1 March 2023.

The value of the prize for the winning club – a voucher for a Viessmann climate solution of the club’s choice – will be calculated based on the number of hits at the shooting range by athletes during the 2023 BMW IBU World Championships Biathlon in Oberhof from 8-19 February. For each hit, we will increase the possible CO2 savings of the climate solution by 9 kg, increasing the value of the voucher by € 3.

Existing sustainable club projects as positive examples
Many biathlon clubs already carry out sustainability actions and have implemented projects to save CO2 emissions or contribute to other sustainability goals, such as nature protection. Now the clubs can submit the stories of their sustainability journey so far and share those examples with the whole biathlon community.

The Viessmann Climate Club Trophy wants to grow awareness of the work already underway to motivate other clubs and to honour the work of the pioneering clubs as role models. The aim of the challenge is to identify several case studies for biathlon clubs around the world to follow suit and make their own contributions to the global climate and sustainability goals.

Common sustainable goals of IBU and Viessmann
Through its sustainability engagement, the IBU seeks to ensure that the future generations may continue to enjoy snow sports and nature for years to come. All members of the biathlon family are expected to contribute with their everyday actions. Viessmann is the Official Climate Partner of the IBU and develops intelligent and sustainable solutions in the areas of heating, energy, and climate. Viessmann uses its own know-how to identify potential for energy-savings and CO2 reduction. The Climate Club Trophy is a great example of how the two partners work together to pursue common sustainable goals.
